The spectacular
Martin Sexton performs on Wednesday, April 9th!

Don't miss this captivating & accomplished musician who John Mayer says is, "one of the most treasured singer/songwriters, I have ever heard in my life".

Have your Bic lighter handy...umm...cell phone handy! Sexton performs at Toad's Place in Richmond on Wednesday, April 9th!

For nearly 20 years, Martin Sexton has channeled his love of soulful folk, blues, rock and pop music into accessible, emotional songs that recall the work of Van Morrison and Otis Redding.

A self-taught guitarist and singer, Sexton left his home in Syracuse for Boston's coffeehouse scene in 1989, when he began busking and playing open-mic nights. Recorded in a friend's attic in 1990, Sexton's cassette-only self-released debut, In the Journey, sold 15,000 copies before it was later reissued. After winning the National Academy of Songwriters' Artist of the Year award in 1994, Sexton continued to tour while taking time to release 1996's Black Sheep, 1998's The American, and 2000's Wonder Bar to critical acclaim.

Citing as inspiration the interlocking song suites of The Beatles' Abbey Road, Sexton's new Seeds mixes country blues, '60s pop and gentle folk, making full use of his varied talents.

“The real thing, people, a star with potential to permanently affect the musical landscape and keep us entertained for years to come.” – Billboard

"Martin Sexton is ripe with raw, expansive talent. His voice comes in a hundred impossible shades. His songs are sweet and spirited and soulful. His repertoire is like a cross-country tour of the American musical vernacular." – Boston Globe
